911 Dust Deaths Background
Scientists have reported the huge dust plume caused by the collapse of the twin towers contained toxic pollutants, some of it "as corrosive as drain cleaner," according to a U.S. Geological survey. Rescue workers at the Pentagon were issued respirators but those in New York were not and some people used paper masks to protect their mouths and noses.
